Why All Of These Conventions?
The Republican Party of Virginia's bylaws require
bi-annual conventions to choose new city/county/state Party leadership
positions, city/county/state committee voting members, nominate
candidates for office, and in Presidential Election years to also choose
Delegates to the Republican National Convention and Electors to the
Electoral College.
Why Do These Conventions and the Party Matter?
The conventions very much matter as the leaders and
the voting members of the Republican Party of Virginia are chosen.
The Party controls the foundations of Republican politics at the city,
county, and state levels in Virginia in these important ways:
-
how Republican candidates are chosen
(convention, primary, mass meeting, or party-run primary)
-
how the Party's funds are raised and spent
-
public policy statements
